Velvet Revolver broken up? And God damn I wanna work there

21 03 2008

At a recent Velvet Revolver show, Scott Weiland revealed that this would be the last tour for VR ever. Tensions within the band have been growing these past months, and really, this news doesn’t surprise me too much. Infact, it kind of makes me happy. If theres no VR, then theres more time for Scott to focus on Stone Temple Pilots.

Obviously, nothing is official yet, but Id say the cat is pretty much out of the bag on this one. Now, don’t get me wrong, Im a pretty big fan of VR (or at least I was), so if there wasn’t a STP reunion upcoming, this news would be pretty shitty for me. However, the STP reunion is still a go and Im still fucking stoked.

In completely unrelated news, I started really watching the NBC version of the office in the past couple of days. I have to say, the show is hilarious and is quicky becoming my favorite show on television. So, if you haven’ checked it out, get on it, its a great show. You can catch whats been made so far from season 4 here. The site will be updating the page with seasons 1 through 3 shortly.

World Of Warcraft: Like a Bad Heroin Addiction

15 03 2008

Today, I re-subscribed to World of Warcraft. The popular game made by Blizzard entertainment, which more than 11 million people play online everyday with each other. So yea, incase you’re unfamiliar with World of Warcraft, the game is whats known as a MMORPG. A Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Basically, the game allows you yo level up a character on either the horde or alliance factions. Each character has a race such as an Orc, a gender(that one is obvious) and a class such as a mage. The game allows you to play your character and quest to level up. As you do this, you can play with other players from around the world. Blizzard released an expansion for World of Warcraft in January of 2007 called The Burning Crusade. Blizzard’s next expansion is due outthis november, and is entitled Wrath of the Lich King

Heres the trailer for the oriinal version of the game to give you a better understanding:

Anyways, I re subscribed today. My friend I used to play with and I were talking about the game for a few hours, and it really brang back the addiction of “WoW”. I couldn’t stop thinking about playing the game over and over again. Which brings me to this blog. I thought I would briefly put my take on these MMORPGs. World of Warcraft is probably the most addicting thing besides booze I’ve come accross. Many people have lost their jobs, their wives, their families, and sometimes their lives. I happen to know somebody through the game that due to his extensive playing of the game, he lost his job and his wife divorced him. Yet, even after all of this, he continues to play WoW possibly even more than he did before. He doesn’t seem to care that its ruining his life, he know hes addicted, but just doesn’t give a shit.

wow nerdThis is what happens when you play too Much WoW.

Id compare World of Warcraft to heroin. Its enormously addictive once you get into it. If you’re lucky enough to quit, the urge to play will always be there. Odds are, you’re going to relapse at some point. I think Iv’e been playing World of Warcraft for close to a year and a half now, and I think Ive quit 3 times before. Obviously, as I stated I’m playing again. So that comes to 4 times Ive quit the game, and 4 times Ive just come crawling back.

Its all in good fun though I suppose, I don’t have much going on right now, so I suppose I can afford to play the game for awhile, at least until things start to pick up. So far, all thats been going on recently is that tommorow my house wont be free again. So that means no substance abuse, and no fucking my girlfriend over the kitchen counter. All good things must come to an end as they say. St. Patty’s day is coming up on Monday (?) so that should be a drunken good time.

Also, in movie news, I recently saw The Insider starring Russel Crowe and Al Pacino and written and directed by Michael Mann. This film was nominated for 7 academy awards including ‘Best Picture’ at the 2000 Oscar Awards. The movie I thought was really well done and for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, its on my list of recomendations, so get out there and check it out.

My girlfriend is sleeping softly beside me here in my bed, and knowing its 4am, I know that I shoud work on getting some sleep as well. Ill catch you guys later, have a good one.

Oh, and watch this:

A Brief Film Review: Little Miss Sunshine

8 03 2008

I just watched Little Miss Sunshine about ohhh…5 minutes ago. Now, I was under the impression that this was a comedy. Maybe it was, it definately was funny at parts, but for a comedy, it didn’t really have as many jokes as a comedic film should have. However, I did think the movie was really good.

Sheryl Hoover (Toni Collette) is an overworked mother of two. Her brother Frank (Steve Carell) is a homosexual Proust scholar, temporarily living at home with the family after having attempted suicide in the wake of a failed relationship. Sheryl’s husband Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a Type A personality striving to help support the family as a motivational speaker and life coach. Dwayne (Paul Dano), Sheryl’s son from a previous marriage, is a Nietzsche-reading teenager who has taken a vow of silence until he can accomplish his dreams of becoming a test pilot. Richard’s father, Edwin (Alan Arkin), recently evicted from a retirement home for snorting heroin, lives with the family; he is close to his seven-year-old granddaughter Olive (Abigail Breslin).

Olive learns she has qualified for the “Little Miss Sunshine” beauty pageant that is being held in Redondo Beach, California in two days. The parents and Edwin, who has been coaching her, want to support her, and Frank and Dwayne cannot be left alone, so the whole family goes. Because they have little money they go on an 800-mile road trip in their yellow Volkswagen T2 Microbus.

The movie is definately good, and has some pretty funny parts weaved into it. I’d definately recomend it for anybody out there looking for a good film to watch. I give it 4 stars for its good story, great acting, good characters, and for just being an overall great movie.

4 star

Why is Hard Rock stuff amazing in Acoustic too?

27 02 2008

I was thinking of what to write for this post. Then, as I was thinking, the acoustic version of Deftones’ ‘Digital Bath’ came on my iTunes. It got me thinking, why are rock tunes really goo when transfered over into an acoustic version? I mean, obviously, not ALL songs that go acoustic are gonna be great, but face it, most are. Just to name the deftones great acoustic versions, theres:

Digital Bath

Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)

Change (In the House of Flies)

Cherry Waves

In my oppinion, all of those are great versions of the originals. Of course theres other bands that have great memorable acoustic covers such as Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Radiohead, just to name a few personal favorites. Just thought Id bring this up for all of you guys out there, check them out if you’re interested. If you’re not a Deftones fan, fuck you.

    Bad Ratings for the Oscars

    26 02 2008

So, Im sure a few of you were able to catch the Oscars on Sunday. I did, although, I didn’t find it that entertaining. I was happy to see Daniel Day-Lewis win Best Actor for his role in ‘There Will Be Blood’. I thought he was amazing in that flick.

    day-lewis

But thats not what I wanted to mention in this post. I wanted to talk about the fact that this year’s Oscars had the worst T.V ratings since 1974, when the current television rating system first began. The three hour show on ABC drew in an average of 32 million on Sunday. Last year’s show was viewed by about 41 million people. So what does this mean for the Oscars? Im sure it had something to do with the fact that the top contending films were critically acclaimed films, but only did modestly in the box office, therefore people’s interest in the ceremony was lacking. To back this up, the highest ratings record for the Oscars was in 1998 with 55 million, when the movie ‘Titanic’ won 11 awards.

Frankly, I don’t really care about the Oscars, I do care about good films though, and this year there were several. I guess that says alot about America right now, the average person would have more interest in something with more money pumped in it and have it be bad, than something with little money involved yet, is a great flick. I guess you could say thats true anywhere. And it is. But this idea of commercialism in media and whatnot really bothers me. This situation is exactly similar to the problem in the Music industry, but Ill get to that in a later post.

So I doubt this post was really of much interest, and made little sense (reading back on it, I can see I was correct). Ill try to have my next post alittle less serious. Perhaps Ill talk about monkeys, maybe even the process of milking a Goat. Who knows. Until then, have a good one.

    Time to lose some Cash!

    22 02 2008

Im just about to head out for a fine night of poker with some friends. Im usually a decent player of poker, until I start winning big hands and then I get too aggressive and lose within 15 minutes. Im in need of some cash, so ill keep my weakness in mind and try to play smart, hopefully all goes well and I come back home with some extra “chedduh”.

    Gene Simons Sex Tape?

    22 02 2008

I woke up today, and thought I would browse through wordpress blogs a bit, to see whats going on. That was until I found a blog that led me to this. If you’re daring enough to actually see the tape itself heres the link to that. Personally, I find it pretty disgusting that this tape even exists. He may not be married, but he has a girlfriend (whos basically his wife anyways) of 20 years, and along with that, two children.

On the other hand, its pretty funny, after hearing him be the arrogant asshole hes always been about women and what not, his performance in the tape is nothing more than abysmal. So if you hate Gene Simons, like I know alot of you do, check out the tape for a good laugh. If not, check out the links about it anyways just to get the scoop. Its pretty crazy news; I wonder how his reality TV show is gonna go now that this is out, nothing but time will tell i suppose. I’ll post my real daily blog later today. Until then, have a good one.

I can’t Get Enough ‘Tones, and finally Vids on the IPod!

    22 02 2008

This Video of the Deftones at the MTV:Icon- The Cure event is hypnotic to me. I can’t stop watching it. I’ve been in this situation over the performance, but, time and time again, it seems to have the same effect on me. Here it is:

Another Deftones performance I can’t seem to stop thinking about lately is their performance of Bloody Cape on Late Night with Carson Daily. Maybe its because I happen to be really into the Self Titled album right now, I’m not quite sure, but regardless, its a kick ass performance. Here it is:

In other News, I FINALLY got a program that can convert my concerts to MPEG-4 format so that I can watch them on my IPod. Im aware its extremely easy to convert files to view them on an IPod, but the catch is, that costs money. Anywho, I’m converting a Pearl Jam concert from their Pinkpop ’92 show, one of my favorite performances of any band. Im pretty stoked to see how it turns out.

    EDDIE!

Thats all for me right now. Have a good one.
